MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon wrestling team got a split in its season debut Wednesday, beating Shorewood 47-21 before falling to Arlington 52-21. Against Shorewood, the Bulldogs got pins from Nick Holthe in the 215-pound weight class (1:01), Kyle Koetje at 119 (5:48), Rafael Avila at 140 (2:25), Kyle Hoagland at 145 (1:51) and Joe Barrington at 160 (1:18). Against the Eagles, the Bulldogs got a 10-4 decision by Brad Rabenstein at 215, a pin by Danial Osburn at 285 (4:55), a pin by Koetje at 119 (3:11) and an 8-1 decision by George Hausauer at 130. Travis Gomez added a 10-5 decision at 152. Mount Vernon coach Rex Febus said fatigue was a factor against the Eagles. “We wrestled two matches, thought we were in good shape to go two in one night and we weren’t,” he said. “Arlington was better conditioned.” |
